Velodyne Lidar CEO Anand Gopalan appeared on the Leaders in Lidar Podcast. In a wide-ranging conversation, Anand discussed our company’s legendary role at the very beginnings of lidar for automotive applications, as well as new, innovative use cases.
Anand spoke with podcast host Zeke Arlott of Umbilical Technology on how Velodyne is leading the way in advancing lidar technology. The podcast addressed how lidar will be used in the future – from autonomous vehicles and deliveries to smart cities.
The podcast discussed our product development heritage, which Anand described as “an incredible journey for Velodyne.” Anand reviewed how “the story of Velodyne is cracking the tradeoff” between lidar performance and manufacturability.
The miniaturization technology and micro-packaging we have developed for lidar – with our proprietary Micro Lidar Array – allows us to achieve economies of scale and maintain performance. Anand noted Velodyne can build multi-channel lidar processors that are the “size of a penny.”
Velodyne is benefiting from the fruits of these lidar innovations, said Anand. He added, we roll out cost-efficient products that have customers saying they can see commercialization of their own products using our lidar.
This alignment of product and customer has created what Anand called “the inflection point in the industry.”
