Velodyne Lidar’s Vella Development Kit (VDK) provides access to Vella, Velodoyne’s breakthrough lidar-based perception software, paired with our world-class lidar sensors. Customers have used VDK for short-range pedestrian detection, collision avoidance and cross-reference. They have also used the developer kit for fusion with camera-based perception for industrial, robotics and automotive applications.
VDK 2022.3 has been released, expanding computing platform options for our customers. Our latest release now delivers a software-only option, allowing customers to download and install Vella on their own computing platforms. Developers can plug in our lidar with an off-the-shelf software library of functions, advancing solution development for innovative applications and accelerating time to market.
VDK Release 2022.3 marks the one-year anniversary of the software’s product launch. Our quarterly updates demonstrate Velodyne’s commitment to advancing the latest hardware support and processing features.
Advancing Vella is a continuous process for our software development team. The next release will give developers the flexibility to run Vella natively in Ubuntu Linux. It will provide the same VDK runtime user experience without using Docker as the runtime environment. Watch this space for details next quarter!
