Seabed selects Velodyne Lidar for mobile mapping
The Seabed mobile mapping system, equipped with a Velodyne Lidar Puck™ sensor, can be combined with a bathymetric multi-beam echo-sounder to provide a complete 3D, georeferenced image above and below water, saving time and money.

Seabed B.V., which specializes in high-quality equipment for offshore surveying and dredging, selected Velodyne Lidar’s Puck sensors for its Lidar mobile mapping system, reported Hydro International.

The article quoted Seabed General Manager Elice Collewijn saying:

“We selected Velodyne’s Puck because it produces the high-quality, consistent data our customers need. The Puck has demonstrated outstanding reliability and power efficiency while operating in severe offshore situations. The sensor allows us to capture vital, high-resolution data to accurately measure and analyse marine environments.”

Highways Today also covered the news and quoted Velodyne’s Executive Director Europe Erich Smidt saying:

“Seabed is helping companies transform their businesses with offshore 3D mapping solutions which can deliver highly accurate, detailed data collection to support safe navigation and protection of marine environments. Their solutions demonstrate how Velodyne’s sensors provide the performance, range and compact form factor needed for versatile mobile mapping systems that can enable a sustainable future.”

A post in Yahoo! Finance noted, the “Seabed system is a turnkey mobile lidar solution for hydrographic surveys that can support sustainable planning which aims to protect sensitive historic and marine environments.”
