ROBORACE, the world’s first autonomous car racing series, will use Velodyne Lidar‘s solid-state Velarray H800 sensors in its electric-powered autonomous race cars, reports autoevolution.
The article, written by Cristian Curmei, explains, “because ROBORACE vehicles are tuned to perform under stressful conditions, this presents designers and manufacturers of diverse autonomous systems with the perfect playground to optimize and develop current and future systems.”
Cristian notes the Velarray H800 “will be used in Season One Championship series cars, currently, DevBot 2.0.”
In the news release announcing the Velodyne/ROBORACE agreement, Chip Pankow, Chief Championship Officer, ROBORACE, says:
“At ROBORACE, we are always searching for the best technology to build into our race cars and Velodyne has one of the best products available on the market. The Velarray will help our cars achieve safe navigation and collision avoidance in competitive autonomous racing.”
The release states “the Velarray H800 was the clear choice of the ROBORACE engineering and design team due to Velodyne’s technical prowess, sensor performance and reliability, and trust across the industry.”
The ROBORACE Season One Championship series is set to begin later this year.
