The next generation Velabit, Velodyne’s smallest sensor, brings new levels of versatility and affordability to 3D lidar perception. This compact, mid-range lidar sensor now offers a dramatic improvement in field of view: 90 degrees horizontal by 70 degrees vertical. It is highly configurable for specialized use cases and can be embedded almost anywhere within vehicles, robots, UAVs, infrastructure, and more. With the Velabit™, the possibilities are endless.

The smart software solution

Vella software translates the Velabit’s high-quality point cloud data into valuable perception outputs including object classification and tracking, obstacle detection, scene segmentation, and object velocity, that can be readily utilized by vehicle systems. When combined with vehicle motion data, Vella provides time and distance to collision measurements, enabling safe vehicle response. These outputs support functionalities such as Blind-Spot Monitoring, Parking Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, and Automatic Emergency Braking with advanced pedestrian protection.

What sets us apart?

The Velabit features the Micro Lidar Array (MLA), Velodyne’s groundbreaking optical chip technology that forms the “engine” of the lidar sensor. The MLA brings together the core elements that make lidar work: the optical chip and Velodyne’s ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) technology. The miniaturization combined with Velodyne’s proprietary, fully automated manufacturing process enables cost-effective, high-quality mass production.
