News Coverage: Velodyne and Kaarta Technologies Team for Fast, Easy Surface Mapping

Lidar technology can enable ground surface mapping solutions that help city governments plan for infrastructure improvements as well as parking and traffic management.

Spencer Chin wrote a FierceElectronics story about how Kaarta has included Velodyne’s lidar technology in the new Kaarta Stencil 2-32 ground surface mapping solution. He noted that Stencil 2-32 scans ground level surfaces, mapping items such as curbs, manholes, signs, poles, and other features to assist government agency planners.

In discussing an application use case, the article included:

“Allvision uses Stencil 2-32 along with data from an autonomous vehicle developer to conduct curb occupancy analysis in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, an area known for high on-street parking demands. Called Allvision Parkview, the solution allows city planners to monitor parking behavior to improve transportation planning and curb management.”

James Allen wrote a story in Traffic Technology Today about how the Stencil 2-32 incorporates the Velodyne HDL-32E lidar sensor.

In discussing the new Stencil solution in the article, Kaarta’s CEO, Kevin Dowling, said:
