Allison Levitsky, tech industry reporter at the Silicon Valley Business Journal, conducted an in-depth interview with Velodyne Lidar CEO Anand Gopalan on a variety of topics related to Velodyne and autonomous mobility solutions.
In two feature articles that resulted from the interview, Anand’s comments ranged from Velodyne’s path to becoming a public company and our mergers & acquisitions strategy to trends and timelines for autonomous vehicles.
Part one of the Business Journal stories quotes Anand observing how, “the story of the lidar business has been the story of Velodyne charting the course.” The article notes, “Velodyne was the first lidar company to go public via a merger with a special purchase acquisition company — a.k.a., a SPAC.”
In part two of the Business Journal stories, Anand discusses the methodical roll-out of autonomous vehicles and how Velodyne’s diversified customer base across multiple industries reflects the many applications for lidar today.
The article cites Anand saying, “lidar has a lot of nearer-term applications, including in robots, drones, human-driven cars, and in autonomous vehicles that aren’t traveling on the open road or carrying people.” In discussing this market opportunity, Anand says, “We have the unique advantage of really being a player who’s diversified across multiple application spaces.”
