Geospatial technology has a significant role in the automotive industry, mapping a vehicle’s surrounding environment and its route.
In an article in Civil + Structural Engineer, Himanshu Narwani wrote how mapping companies are working with automakers to advance mapping capabilities to support autonomous vehicles.
The article noted:
“Lidar organizations like Velodyne are likewise collaborating with mapping organizations as lidar would be the eye of a self-ruling vehicle. We can’t envision a self-sufficient vehicle without a lidar sensor and a keen route framework. High-goals maps would be utilized to help Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and other propelled driving capacities.”
Increasingly, mapping applications rely on the robust and accurate data provided by lidar technology.
