Laura Wrisley, our vice president of global sales at Velodyne Lidar, was featured in an Automobile & Parts story, discussing the market performance and future technology trends of lidar.

The article notes, “as one of the leaders of automation solutions in China, Velodyne Lidar Asia Pacific is headquartered in Beijing, China and has been serving Chinese customers for more than 10 years. Through advanced lidar solutions, Velodyne Lidar hopes to bring cost-effective products to more Chinese companies to help future mobility.”

Among the lidar solutions Laura covers is our Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking (PAEB) system. She discusses PAEB tests we conducted that demonstrated a clear safety advantage of lidar-based PAEB over current camera- and radar-based PAEB in protecting vulnerable pedestrians in nighttime conditions. Laura says:

“The tests evaluated the Velodyne PAEB system and other radar and camera-based PAEB systems using Velodyne’s lidar sensors and Vella™ software. The results show that the comparable PAEB system based on radar and camera fails in five nighttime scenarios, while the lidar-based system avoids crashes and exhibits reliable driver assistance performance.”

The article looks at how partnerships, through the Automated with Velodyne program, are an important part of our go-to-market strategy. Laura provides an example of an AwV partner in China, saying:
