Faraday Future has chosen Velodyne Lidar as its exclusive supplier of lidar for Faraday’s flagship FF 91 all-electric vehicle (EV), reported Lucy Nicholson in Reuters.
Sam Abuelsamid, in a Forbes article, wrote Faraday Future plans “to launch the FF91 with Velodyne’s new Velarray H800 solid state lidar.”
Abuelsamid noted the FF 91 will have two Velarray sensors which “will be arranged with some overlap so that they provide at least a 180 degree field of view around the front portion of the car.” He added “the Ford Otosan truck joint-venture in Turkey has previously announced that it is planning to use the same sensor for driver assist systems on heavy trucks.”
A story in Highways Today quoted Carsten Breitfeld, CEO, Faraday Future, saying:
“Velodyne is a well-known industry leader in performance, reliability and price in lidar solutions. We are embracing the latest technologies – including Velodyne’s Velarray H800 – to develop driver assistance features that help us deliver new levels of safety, driver comfort and convenience. The sensor supports safe navigation and collision avoidance, incorporated in the current vehicle architecture in a way that allows the FF 91 to maintain its future-forward design.”
