Velodyne Lidar will demonstrate our innovative lidar solutions at Auto Guangzhou 2021 (Hall B, Booth C11) from November 19 to 21 at the Canton Fair Complex in Guangzhou, China.

To learn more about the Velodyne presence at Auto Guangzhou, we chatted with Sinclair Vass, our Chief Commercial Officer.

Sinclair joined Velodyne in March 2021. He is a seasoned executive with extensive experience in telecommunications, consumer electronics, automotive and industrial laser markets. Prior to coming to Velodyne, Sinclair was SVP & President of the Laser Optics Business Unit at Focuslight Technologies Inc., a China-based manufacturer of high-performance laser and optical beam steering solutions.

Sinclair is conversational in Mandarin and enjoys engaging with different people, cultural styles and business customs. While at Velodyne, he has been closely engaged with our customers and our strong team in China.

Here’s our conversation with Sinclair:

Can you introduce Velodyne to readers who may not be familiar with our company?

Velodyne advances safe mobility through innovative lidar solutions. We provide market-leading lidar hardware and software in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous vehicles, robotics, smart city infrastructure, delivery, industrial and more. Our solutions enable electric vehicles and vehicle automation to operate with safe and autonomous mobility.

Can you discuss our company’s presence in China?

We are one of the autonomous solution leaders in China. OurAPAC headquarters are in Beijing and we have a very talented team in China. We have been active in the market for more than ten years, working closely with customers. We have a long history of driving the continuous cost reduction of lidar by combining our patented technology, key partnerships and production strategy advantages. This has allowed us to bring cost-effective lidar to the Chinese automobile market.

Who are some of the customers we are working with in China?

We are proud to have many innovative companies as our customers in China. Our customers include Trunk.Tech, who we partnered with to accelerate the commercialization of driverless trucks in China’s logistics market. Idriverplus is another important Velodyne customer which is headquartered in China and does business around the world. Idriverplus makes commercial autonomous vehicles, which include street cleaners, passenger cars and logistics vehicles. You can see their street sweepers equipped with our sensors on roads today in China.

Velodyne’s deep connection to China can also be demonstrated through our long-standing relationship with Baidu. Baidu is an investor in our company and continues to use our sensors in their autonomy businesses.

We are in active discussions with a number of other Chinese companies about providing lidar solutions to meet their needs. China and Chinese companies are heavily investing in autonomous applications and smart city infrastructure. Our lidar solutions are a great fit for these applications. We are working towards the goal that you will see many more Velodyne lidar sensors in China. That will be a focus for us at Auto Guangzhou.

What will Velodyne be showcasing at Auto Guangzhou?

At our booth, companies can meet with our technical experts to discuss how our lidar products can be used in their autonomous mobility solutions. I will be at the show too and look forward to meeting with many of our customers and prospects. At the show, visitors to the booth can learn how our revolutionary sensor and software solutions are uniquely suited to deliver flexibility, quality and performance to meet the needs of a wide range of industries. We will showcase our classic Puck series and long-range Alpha Prime sensors as well as our advanced solid-state lidar sensors, the Velarray H800 and Velarray M1600.
