In May of 2021, Velodyne launched its breakthrough Intelligent Infrastructure Solution (IIS). Combining Velodyne’s lidar sensors with powerful artificial intelligence (AI) developed by Bluecity, a company based in Montreal, we developed a solution to solve some of today’s most challenging and pervasive infrastructure problems. Our partnership with Bluecity continued to strengthen over the years as customers adopted IIS with great success, including over 100 deployments worldwide and growing. We then took the next natural step in our relationship by acquiring Bluecity and bringing them into the Velodyne family. Today, we are happy to announce that IIS will now be known as BlueCity!
There will be no change to the BlueCity product offering, formerly known as IIS, which will provide the same world-class technology to our customers. BlueCity is part of the newly-launched Vella ecosystem, which includes software, cloud services and full-stack lidar solutions that combine hardware with software for a multitude of applications. As part of the evolution of Vella, in 2023 we will be launching Vella Blue, our lidar-based smart infrastructure platform. Vella Blue will provide fixed position lidar installations for applications such as ports, warehouses, airports, smart cities, intersections, stadiums and more. BlueCity is our first product in the Vella Blue line and will remain focused on intelligent transportation solutions. Stay tuned in 2023 for additional Vella Blue solutions!
