Gatik was founded in 2017 with a mission to deliver goods safely and efficiently using autonomous vehicles (AVs). The company focuses on business to business (B2B), short-haul logistics for the retail industry. Gatik’s range of Class 1-6 AVs move goods between stores, distribution centers, and collection points known as the middle mile, helping customers meet consumer demand for real-time goods, increase road safety, and meet an unprecedented expectation for contactless delivery.
E-commerce is exploding, but the supply chain – a $1 trillion market – is stuck. Consumers want goods in real time but the existing supply chain foundation doesn’t support growth. Gatik enables its customers to optimize their hub-and-spoke operations, enhancing inventory pooling across multiple locations and facilitating high-delivery output, which reduces labor costs. As a result of COVID-19, Gatik’s solution has never been more important. Grocery stores are grappling with major logistics challenges and a dramatic rise in online orders. Gatik’s solution minimizes personnel-based disruptions to the supply chain and reduces human-to-human transmission channels of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases via contactless delivery.
Gatik has deployed AVs on public roads in the USA and Canada with multiple Fortune 500 retail customers, including Walmart, since July 2019. These operations are ground-breaking in the AV industry: marking the first ever revenue-generating deployment of an AV fueled hub-and-spoke delivery model in North America. Since the launch of Gatik services, the company has been transporting deliveries up to 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
Gatik’s systems have been designed for Level 4 deployment without the need for driver intervention when operating on fixed, predetermined delivery routes. The key to Gatik’s success involves optimizing fixed routes, such as those used along the supply chain’s middle mile, countless times each day. The biggest threat to the autonomous revolution is the unknown, or “edge cases,” which are substantially reduced on fixed journeys. This enables vehicles fitted with Gatik’s proprietary autonomous driving technology to safely and seamlessly navigate delivery routes.
